AROUND THE MAJORS : Yankees Honor Little Leaguers
The New York Yankees honored the two finalists from the Little League World Series before playing the Seattle Mariners on Sunday.
The champions from Osaka, Japan, and the runners- up from Phenix City, Ala., took part in a pregame ceremony one day after the Japanese team defeated Phenix City, 5-0.

The Baltimore Orioles placed pitcher Jim Corsi on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring. Outfielder Eugene Kingsale, recalled from triple-A Rochester to take Corsi’s roster spot, started in center field Sunday and had a second-inning double for his first major league hit.

Because of Saturday’s doubleheader, the Colorado Rockies plan to promote pitcher Luther Hackman from triple-A Colorado Springs to start Wednesday’s game against Pittsburgh. . . . Philadelphia third baseman Scott Rolen flew back to Philadelphia Sunday to undergo treatment for a sore lower back.
