Richard E. Moore; Retired Service Engineer

Richard “Dick” Eugene Moore, a retired sales and service engineer, died Saturday at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura. He was 72.

He was born Aug. 11, 1927, in Riverside, where he grew up and attended school. When he was 17, Moore joined the Navy and served during World War II.

After the war, he moved to Camarillo to join his family and began working for Saticoy Rock, a concrete and asphalt supplier, as a sales and service engineer.

He met Carol Corser and, after a 18-month courtship, they were married on June 12, 1949.

Moore worked 42 years for Saticoy Rock, now known as CalMat, and retired in 1990.

He was involved with National Little League in Ventura for many years. He also belonged to VFW Post 1679 and American Legion Post 339.

In addition to his wife of 50 years, Moore is survived by a daughter, Nanci Skinner of Wisconsin; a son, Roger of Napa; sisters Geraldine Swint of Sonoma and Doris Ward of Riverside; a brother, Robert; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura, which is handling the arrangements.

Services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, with the Revs. Alvin Lay and Lewis McClendon of Ventura Baptist Church officiating.

Burial will follow at the Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.

Flowers may be sent to funeral home or contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society’s Ventura County unit.
