City officials are considering their legal options in the case of fired City Manager Arthur C. Simonian, the former city official who recently won his case to get his job back. Mayor John M. Gullixson said the city’s special attorneys are working on gathering information on Simonian’s alleged financial malfeasance. But Councilman Mark Schwing, who has backed Simonian in the past, said he thought the city should try to reach a settlement instead. Simonian has been accused of paying himself about $300,000 in perks that were not authorized by the City Council. No court date has been set. Simonian last week claimed a victory when a Superior Court judge overturned the council’s Sept. 7 decision to fire him. The court found that the council violated the state’s Brown Act, ensuring access to public meetings, because it failed to give Simonian 24-hour written notice before the 3-2 vote to oust him. The council has not yet made a decision on filing an appeal to the judge’s decision. Simonian remains on paid administrative leave until the council takes further action to either terminate his contract or put him back in City Hall.
