ON THE GREEN : Bollini Ousted in Semifinals of Junior Classic

Nico Bollini of Yorba Linda lost in the semifinals of the Polo Golf Junior Classic last week at Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Bollini, a junior at Servite, defeated Ryan Moore of Puyallup, Wash., 5 and 3, in the quarterfinals, then lost, 4 and 3, to Bill Haas of Greer, S.C. Haas is son of PGA Tour player Jay Haas.

Nick Dougherty, England’s top junior, won the title, beating Haas, 3 and 2, in Saturday’s final.

In the girls’ competition, Angela Rho of Fullerton lost, 6 and 4, in the second round to Lorena Ochoa of Guadalajara, Mexico.

Naree Song Wongluekiet, a 13-year-old from Bradenton, Fla., won the girls’ title. She beat Catherine Cartwright of Bonita Springs, Fla., 1-up, by making a 20-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole.

Bob Johns, director of golf for the city of Anaheim, was named golf pro of the year by the Southern California PGA’s Metro chapter, and Roger Teel, head pro at the city’s Dad Miller course, received the chapter’s Bill Strausbaugh Award for contributions to fellow golf professionals. Other awards won by Orange County pros--assistant of the year: Jeremy Clevenger (Mesa Verde), Horton Smith Award: David Wright (Pelican Hill), Junior Golf Leader: Marty La Roche (Tustin Ranch), teacher of the year: Jamie Mulligan (Coyote Hills), public merchandiser of the year: Perry Hallmeyer (Oak Creek) and private merchandiser of the year: Brad Shupe (Los Coyotes). . . . Bob Emmons of Yorba Linda Country Club and Kevin McNece of Mesa Verde tied for fourth at the SCPGA Pinehurst Championship Monday at Mission Viejo Country Club. They shot one-under-par 71 and finished in a nine-way tie for fourth. Also in the tie: Brett Massingham of Strawberry Farms and Dustin Schilling of Chevy Chase Country Club, Clevenger of Mesa Verde and David Donellan of Newport Beach CC and Paul Devin and Maris Valainis of Rancho San Joaquin. Mike Mitchell of Mission Hills and Ron Skayhan of Hillcrest won the event and $1,590 by shooting 68.
