Bright Choices to Expand Young Minds

It’s easy to find the high-profile stuff for children in your local video and music stores, but DreamWorks’ “The Prince of Egypt” and, of course, the astonishing “The Iron Giant” deserve special consideration.

Here are other gift list options too, to spark the imagination and expand horizons, including such off-the-beaten-track treasures as an exquisite, Latin-flavored lullaby CD and master storytellers who create spellbinding theater of the mind.

A terrific tale of Merlin and two children on a magical quest to save their queen mother, interwoven with evocative pre-Baroque music. Beautifully narrated by Irons.

**** “THE PRINCE OF EGYPT,” DreamWorks Home Entertainment. $23. https://www.prince-of-egypt.com/. Top celebs did the voices in this tale about the biblical Moses, but the real stars are this lovely film’s breathtaking animation and respect for character and story that give it all-ages appeal.

Wells’ haunting tale from Seattle’s Taproot Theatre and Charles Way’s stunner about hearing-impaired percussionist Evelyn Glennie, from Wimbledon’s Polka Theatre for Children.
