Wayne E. Boyer of Oxnard, a retired teacher, died Nov. 23 in his motor home at his favorite RV resort park in Pismo Beach. He was 78.

He was born July 7, 1921, in New Kensington, Pa., where he grew up and attended school.

During World War II, he served in the Army and received a Purple Heart during the Battle of the Bulge.

After the war, he became a math teacher in Lower Burrell, Pa., for 17 years. He was also a Kiwanis secretary-treasurer when he lived in Lower Burrell.

In 1965, Boyer moved his family to California and continued his career at Thousand Oaks High School. He retired from teaching in 1984.

In recent years, Boyer enjoyed outings with the VCER’s RV group. He also performed in a local musical group, the Melodears, and accompanied the group with a gut bucket.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gerry; daughters Sheralyn Littleton and Carol Ann Reed, and son David, all of Oxnard; brothers Dean and Don; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Boyer was preceded in death by his brother, the Rev. Dale Boyer, and a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Mendez.

Memorial services are scheduled at 1 p.m. Friday at Church of the Foothills in Ventura, with the Rev. John Martin officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Church of the Foothills’ music program.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Charles Carroll Funeral Home, Ventura.
