Three high school class ring vendors will compete for business tonight during an information session at Mission Viejo High School, ending a long-standing system that guaranteed vendors exclusive selling rights at the expense of students.

Jostens, Herff Jones and Epicenter will make brief presentations to parents and students at 7 p.m. and then showcase their products in the school’s gym. The event is open to all high schoolers in the Saddleback Valley Unified School District.

Schools once granted exclusive selling rights to one vendor in exchange for money that would go to the school and administrative perks, like free stationery, calendars and business cards, according to school officials and vendors. These added incentives often increased ring prices for students.

Mission Viejo High School is at 25025 Chrisanta Drive.
