St. Jude Medical Center will flip the switch on its Christmas tree at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, as part of its 10th annual Light Up a Life program.

The tree-lighting will follow a reception open to the public at 5 p.m. A menorah will also be lighted for the third night of Hanukkah, and holiday songs will be performed by Fullerton High School’s Vocal Ensemble and by Cantor Shannon McGrady Bane of Temple Beth Ohr of La Mirada.

The Light Up a Life program allows people to dedicate lights on the tree in honor or memory of loved ones. Proceeds go to the medical center’s hospice, which provides care and support to terminally ill patients and their families.

This year, the tree will be lighted by Cheri Jewett and her son, Blake Simkin. Jewett’s mother recently died of kidney cancer and had used the services of the hospice before her death.
