BUENA PARK

About 100 children will be getting new jackets and clothes this Christmas at the Sears Roebuck and Co. store in the Buena Park Mall, thanks to some community organizations, businesses and individuals that have donated money for the annual shopping spree.

The Buena Park Noon Lions launched the annual holiday event five years ago. Organizer Sharon Smith said that with considerable community support, she hit her goal of helping 100 kids, up from 68 children from two school districts who were served last year. This year, another school district has been added and children were also selected from the Boys & Girls Club.

Smith said the Sears store will open its doors to the youngsters early one morning next week. Each child, who will be paired with a volunteer, will get to choose $150 in clothing, of which this particular store is donating $50 of the total per child. Event organizers will have a party for the children afterward, and each also will get a ticket to Knott’s Berry Farm.
