Palffy Questionable for Wednesday’s Game

Share

Winger Ziggy Palffy missed practice Monday and was sent to therapist Michael Schlink for work on his back.

Palffy is questionable for Wednesday’s game against Atlanta.

He was scratched from Saturday’s game against Tampa Bay after complaining of back spasms upon reporting to Staples Center. He also had flu.

Coach Andy Murray said Monday that he was having no personal difficulty with Palffy, a situation that had been speculated on since Friday’s conflicting stories as to why he had not played late in a 1-1 tie against the Ducks.

Palffy is the Kings’ leading scorer with 12 goals and 27 points.

Without Palffy, the Kings shuffled their lines for practice, putting Luc Robitaille with center Jason Blake and right wing Brad Chartrand, and moving center Len Barrie to the fourth line, with Vladimir Tsyplakov and Steve McKenna.

The players were told not to make too much of the switches and that the lines might look completely different today.

“We felt Luc and Jason had pretty good chemistry,” Murray said. “We wanted a practice to see how they worked together, because we’re not sure about Ziggy’s status for Wednesday.”

Also, since Robitaille and Jozef Stumpel were lost because of injury--Robitaille returned only Friday--Palffy has frequently been double-shifted with the fourth line to get him more ice time. That lot could fall to Robitaille on Wednesday.

Defenseman Rob Blake left practice early, complaining of tightness in his left groin.

The move was called precautionary, and Blake said the problem often occurs when he wears new skates.

Defenseman Aki Berg, scratched Saturday night because of flu, returned to practice.
