The NFL is suing several Internet Web sites it says promote gambling and unfairly capitalize on the league’s trademarks and copyrighted material.

The lawsuit against Ken Miller and his “NFL Today” sites was filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in New York City. It alleges that the sites promote gambling, project favorites for each week’s games and provide direct links to gambling sites.

The NFL said the lawsuit was believed to be one of the first, if not the first, to be brought under the Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act of the Lanham Act signed into law last week by President Clinton.
