* John ‘Jay’ Maxwell; Tupperware Sales Operator

John “Jay” Maxwell, owner of Maximum Sales, died Nov. 24 at the age of 69.

Maxwell was born April 16, 1930, in Mobile, Ala., where he grew up and attended school.

In 1949, he moved to Ventura and enlisted in the Navy. He served in the Korean War.

After the war, he attended and graduated from UC Berkeley.

He met his future wife, Nancy, and the couple married in 1958. For 23 years, they operated Maximum Sales, a Tupperware direct-sales operation in Ventura.

Maxwell was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Walter Chaffee Post No. 1679, Elks Lodge No. 1430 in Ventura and American Legion Post No. 339 in Ventura.

In addition to his wife of 41 years, Maxwell is survived by sons Michael of El Dorado Hills and Daniel of Ventura; daughter Lisa of Ventura; brother Sid of Portola; sisters Audrey Pianezzi of Santa Rosa and Rose Silva of Sebastopol; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled at 1 p.m. today at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ventura, with the Rev. Dave Hall officiating. Maxwell’s ashes will be scattered at sea, according to his wishes.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
