CS Fullerton 68, San Jose State 44--The Titans, beaten by 33 points earlier in the week at Pepperdine, took it out on Spartans at Fullerton.

Fullerton (2-5) held San Jose State (3-4) scoreless for a span of seven minutes 19 seconds en route to a 33-17 halftime lead.

“We were solid defensively,” Titan Coach Bob Hawking said. “Our players rose to the occasion after a dismal performance in Malibu. It was our best defensive effort of the year.”

San Jose State, which scored more than 50 points only once in its previous four games, shot 30.9% for the game.

Billy Landram, who had scored 35 points in the Spartans’ Stwo previous games, was held scoreless. He didn’t get his first shot until six minutes into the second half.

Ben Sanders, another of San Jose State’s leading scorers, had only four points and didn’t get a field goal until the final minute of the game. Sanders, who played at Fullerton College, had scored 20 points to lead the Spartans’ 25-point victory over the Titans in San Jose last season.

Fullerton got double-figure scoring from four of five starters. Mark Murphy made four of seven three-point shots and had 14 points. Ike Harmon and Matt Caldwell each had 13 points, and Brandon Campbell had 11.
