NTL Inc., Britain’s biggest cable television company, agreed to acquire Cablecom Holding, Switzerland’s largest cable provider, for about $3.7 billion, people familiar with the transaction told Bloomberg News. Buying closely held Cablecom, which has about 1.3 million subscribers across Switzerland, would give NTL a foothold in Europe and the opportunity to rival traditional phone companies in offering access to the Internet. The acquisition may be announced as soon as today.
