Bush’s Performance in GOP Debates

Share

* Re “Bush’s Winning Glow Dims After Poor Debate Reviews,” Dec. 9: I wonder whether Mark Barabak and others witnessed the same debates that my friends and I watched. We gave George W. Bush high marks for holding his own among the less-than-stellar performances of the others. Has anyone heard a more canned response to questions than those recited by Steve Forbes? Has anyone heard Sen. John McCain deviate from his nonsensical stance on campaign reform, which he probably recited in his sleep?

The liberal media are trying to equate Bush with Dan Quayle, who is a very intelligent man. “Deer in the headlights” look? Bush? Not by a long shot. Bush will be our next president.

* My company conducts public-speaking workshops and I can tell you the difference between Bush and the other Republican candidates. They speak, he recites. When a person speaks to an audience, what he shares is only the tip of the iceberg of his knowledge of a subject. When a person recites, he is repeating what he has carefully memorized because he lacks mastery of the subject. Bush’s problem is that he doesn’t seem to really know what he is talking about.

* We don’t have to worry about the political acumen of Bush and his knowledge of foreign policy. I am sure that if he becomes president the rich conservatives and big corporations who contributed millions of dollars to his campaign will be only too happy to tell him how to run the country!

* Wow, I must have been watching another debate with the Republicans (Dec. 3). The clear winner was Alan Keyes. He was articulate, direct, focused, full of fire, made his points clearly and with heart! Give this man the attention he deserves. I’d like to read more about him.
