3 Hurt When Armored Truck Flips Over

Share

A toppled Brinks Inc. truck partially shut down the Ventura Freeway for three hours Monday and left the truck’s driver and a passenger seriously injured.

Just before 3 p.m., the armored truck was traveling north on the freeway, approaching the Seaward Avenue exit in Ventura, when a car in front of it swerved to avoid a 3-foot-by-3-foot metal box in the roadway. The Brinks truck, however, hit the box. The driver of the truck locked the brakes and swerved into the right-hand lane, California Highway Patrol authorities said.

The truck went off the freeway, hit a dirt embankment and flipped onto its right side.

The driver and one of his two passengers, whose names were not released, were transported to Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura to be treated for major injuries, authorities said. The other passenger was taken to Ventura County Medical Center after suffering minor injuries.
