Irvine Unified School District trustees are expected to set a timetable for making far-reaching budget cuts at tonight’s meeting.

Since voters narrowly rejected a flat $95 parcel tax in November, board members have to cut $4 million worth of programs. District officials expect that about 100 teachers will lose their jobs as a result.

“With the failure of our recent parcel tax, we have lost the opportunity to raise local revenues, and therefore are now forced to dramatically reduce expenditures,” wrote Supt. Patricia Clark White in a report.

The schedule includes two public forums at Woodbridge High School on Jan. 18 and at Irvine High School on Jan. 25; a board workshop Feb. 1 that will focus on recommendations from the district’s finance committee and an analysis of impacts prepared by district officials; and a Feb. 8 deadline to decide which programs to cut.

The district will deliver preliminary layoff notices to teachers on March 15 and final termination notices have to follow by May 15.
