Collins Back as a Scout With Cubs

Terry Collins, who quit as manager of the Angels in September, was hired as advance scout by the Chicago Cubs on Friday.

Collins, 50, managed the Houston Astros from 1994-96 and the Angels from 1997 until he resigned Sept. 3 with the team in last place.

The National Labor Relations Board is postponing the hearing on the contested union election involving Richie Phillips’ attempt to maintain control over baseball umpires. The hearing, originally scheduled for next Wednesday, will take place in the first or second week of January. . . .
