Florida Fans Not Inspired by Bowl
Apparently, Florida fans have better things to do on New Year’s Day than watch their struggling team play in the Citrus Bowl.
Through this week, No. 10 Florida had sold only 6,000 of its 12,500-ticket allotment for the Jan. 1 game against No. 9 Michigan State. The lagging sales have prompted coach Steve Spurrier to send a letter to season ticket-holders urging them to attend the game in Orlando.
Florida is making its second Citrus Bowl appearance in three seasons, but it’s clearly not a destination the Gators or their fans care for. This year, they bring a two-game losing streak to the game, including a humbling 34-7 loss to Alabama in the Southeastern Conference title game.
Michigan State isn’t experiencing ticket problems.
The Spartans sold out their 12,000-seat minimum in less than four days and had sold 13,600 tickets as of Wednesday.
