Officers Arrest 21 During DUI Sweep

Authorities arrested 21 people in the Santa Clarita Valley during an eight-hour crackdown on drunk driving during the weekend.
“It was a busy night at the jail,” said Sgt. Bruce Sonnenblick of the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Santa Clarita Valley station. The station conducted the task force sweep with California Highway Patrol officers from 7 p.m. Saturday until 3 a.m. Sunday.
The task force was organized because authorities “have reason to believe that there are a lot of drivers out there, especially during the holiday season, who are drinking and driving,” Sonnenblick said.
No checkpoints were used, but the 23 officers participating in the task force were freed from regular patrol duties for those eight hours.
“Their sole purpose of being out there was finding drivers under the influence,” Sonnenblick said. None of the arrested drivers was involved in an accident, he added.
