Pauline McWhirter; Retired School Cook

Pauline McWhirter, a retired school cook, died Saturday at her home in Oak View. She was 84.

She was born Pauline Cheshier on Nov. 22, 1915, in Wilberton Township, Ill. She grew up and attended school in Vandalia, Ill.

During World War II, she moved to San Diego and, while there, she met her future husband Donal. They were married in 1950 and moved to Ventura County.

McWhirter began working for the El Rio School District in the 1960s and became head cook before her retirement in 1977.

She was formerly a member of the Nyeland Community Church and most recently attended New Hope Christian Center in Oak View, where she served in the Sunday school ministry, choir and as a greeter.

In addition to her husband, McWhirter is survived by a daughter, Judy Geisman of Fallbrook; a sister, Beulah Pittman of Ventura; brothers Cecil Cheshier of Ventura and Robert Cheshier of Sterling, Ill.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services are scheduled at 10 a.m. today at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura, which is handling the arrangements. The Rev. Tom Morris of New Hope Christian Center will officiate. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura.
