Lyle L. Jensen; Retired Carpenter

Lyle L. Jensen, a retired carpenter, died Monday at his home in Ventura. He was 87.

Jensen was born April 4, 1912, in Irene, S. D. He attended schools in Rapid City and went on to the University of South Dakota.

He and Velma Clark were married on Sept. 3, 1934, and moved to California in 1939.

Jensen worked for Nehi Bottling Co. before becoming a carpenter. He belonged to Carpenters Union Local 150.

On July 7, 1954, he was baptized and became an active member of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He worked as an elder and helped with the formation of five English-language congregations in Ventura. He also had a close association with three Spanish-language congregations.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Lyla Hodgson and Norma Ruhl, both of Ventura; two sisters, Ione Battistone of Santa Barbara and Millicent Saunderson of New Hampshire; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled at 6 p.m. Friday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Ventura. Weldon Howze will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
