In a statement during Tuesday evening’s City Council meeting, Police Chief Vince Giampa said the city should face no major system failures New Year’s Eve. Giampa said that as a result of the department’s yearlong preparation, potential problems have been averted.
He said the department discovered its voice mail and computer systems were not Y2K compliant, and both were replaced earlier this year.
Giampa also told the council that office and on-call staff will be increased New Year’s Eve, and that staff will closely monitor national events throughout the evening.
