Burglary Try Ends in Gunfire
A Huntington Beach man narrowly escaped injury Thursday in an early-morning armed burglary attempt at his home.
Huntington Beach Police Lt. Luis Ochoa said the victim, identified only as a 57-year-old businessman, was awakened by loud noises outside the front door of his residence in a mobile home park in the 19200 block of Brookhurst Street.
Ochoa said the victim saw that the door was ajar and struggled with two intruders to keep his door closed. The invaders fired four shots into the residence, missing the victim. The victim retrieved his own weapon and fired back. The burglars then fled.
There were no witnesses, but Ochoa said neighbors did hear gunfire. Detectives are investigating.
