Woman Dies After Being Hit by Car
A 78-year-old woman was struck by a car and killed as she tried to cross a street in Fountain Valley on Friday, officials said.
Margaret Truesdell of Fountain Valley was crossing Ward Street between Slater and Warner avenues around 6 p.m., said Fountain Valley Police Sgt. Kevin Childe. She was not using a crosswalk.
“Unfortunately, a resident from Santa Ana struck her while driving a vehicle northbound,” Childe said.
Bruce Lyle, a deputy coroner, said Truesdell was pronounced dead at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital at 6:09 p.m. The county coroner’s office will conduct an autopsy today, he said.
Police are still investigating, Childe said. He added that there were no unusual circumstances and no indications alcohol was involved.
