OAHU BOWL
OREGON STATE (7-4) vs. HAWAII (8-4)
* When: 5:30 p.m.
* Television: ESPN
* Update: Hawaii’s rise from 0-12 to the Oahu Bowl in one season has made believers of its fans. A victory over Oregon State in the Oahu Bowl would help convince the rest of the nation the Rainbow Warriors aren’t a fluke. With two regular season losses to Pacific 10 Conference teams, Hawaii is the underdog against the Beavers, even though the Rainbow Warriors will be playing at home. Hawaii was beaten by USC, 62-7, in its season opener, extending the team’s losing streak to 19 games. Then it won eight of its next 10 games before losing the season finale to Washington State. USC finished seventh in the Pac-10, Washington State was last. Talk of a possible loss doesn’t faze the Beavers, who are making their first bowl appearance since 1965, after their first winning season since 1970. Oregon State is led by quarterback Jonathan Smith, a Glendora native.
