Redevelopment Fans Win 11 of 18 Seats

The Los Angeles city clerk on Monday finalized the election results for 18 seats on a Project Area Committee to oversee a redevelopment project in the northeast San Fernando Valley.

The official tally, which goes to the City Council for certification, confirms that candidates supporting redevelopment won 11 of the 18 seats contested in the Dec. 17 election.

The following candidates won election in the following categories:

* Community organization representatives: Soledad Alatorre of Padres de Familia por un Futuro Mejor and Carol Silver of the Sun Valley Chamber of Commerce.

* Business owners: John Del Gaudio, listed as a property owner, and Dick Symonds of Symonds’ Cycles.

* Business/manufacturing representatives: Jimmy Garzon of New Century Iron Artisans, Michel Lavallee of Lido Bungee Corp., John Ashcraft of Westlake Grinding, Alicia Barrera of Woodson Metal Cutting, Arthur Sweet of Thorpe Inc., Glenn Hoiby of Bluestreak Aerospace and Victor Carreon of Rainbow Lighting and Furniture. There was a five-way tie for the eighth manufacturing seat; the PAC will decide whom to appoint to that seat.

* Resident owners: Esther Del Gaudio, Maria Carmen Verdin and Wilfred Negrete.

* Resident tenants: Roberto Ramirez, Yolanda Fuentes and Sandra Obando.
