As 2000 nears and concerns about computer crashes rise, the Police Department is focusing on a different kind of crash.
To prevent and monitor drunk driving, the department will have more officers than usual patrolling the streets New Year’s Eve.
The department also has arranged mutual aid agreements with other agencies in case a serious emergency occurs and additional help is needed.
“We anticipate an increase in calls for service,” Capt. John Rees said. “And there’s always a possibility of some sort of area-wide problem.”
