One year and $1.6 million after closing its doors, the Orange Main Library is ready for a glamorous opening Saturday. The library had closed in December 1997 for the first major renovation in its 40-year history.

“This is a big, giant step forward,” said Gary Wann, director of Library and Community Services. “We took a building that was for all intents and purposes dormant, if not dead, and brought it back to life.”

Festivities begin at 10 a.m. with the formal dedication. At 11 a.m., the doors open and a full program of activities will start and run until 6 p.m. The library is at North Center Street and Chapman Avenue. Information: (714) 288-2577.
