SAN CLEMENTE
Planning to restore the Casa Romantica Mansion is underway thanks to Maureen Gates, a businesswoman who has used the historic site for business parties for 15 years. Gates, who was married at the mansion, wants to operate a cultural, art and wedding center. Her ideas will be reviewed by the City Council, and a decision should be made in March, city officials said.
Casa Romantica was built by San Clemente’s founder, Ole Hanson, 70 years ago and was purchased by the city redevelopment agency in 1989.
