Fridays With the Philharmonic: Friday night usually is extremely busy. After the Philharmonic concert I take the guest artists and some board members and have dinner. What I’ve been trying to do is find something downtown that is close to the Chandler Pavilion. Until now, it’s always been Spago in Beverly Hills or someplace on the Sunset Strip. It’s very difficult to find a place that has nice atmosphere that’s easy to reach from downtown and still serving when the concert is over.

Window-Shopping: Saturday morning I take my 8-year-old son to his piano lesson high up in Beverly Hills. We go there and basically both get a lesson at the same time. Afterward we try to do something fun together, like look at fancy cars on Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills or the Ferrari garage. Then I’m back at home in Hancock Park with the kids and we play. One thing I would really like to do is archery, which my son and I both like, but I’m still looking for a place to go shoot some arrows.

Camping Out: What I think is ideal for a Saturday is to get everyone in the car and drive to the desert, go hiking, spend the night, and then go hiking again in the morning. The nature around this city is so magnificent. That, or go to the ocean. What we’re thinking about for next summer is to see if we can find a boat and take Saturdays and go sailing.

More Music: If we’re in town, we might go to an art house to see a movie or go to a great jazz club where some musicians are playing, and take some friends. The Catalina Bar & Grill, Jazz Bakery--anyplace where there is some great jazz happening in a relaxed atmosphere.

Beach Blading: Right now, Sunday is a mixed bag of things. Usually what we do is go to Santa Monica and/or Venice beach, put on the Rollerblades and start skating. Then we have some lunch over there and spend some time on the sand. My kids are trying to surf--trying--and they love it.
