Make-Up Looks Glossy

To quote Elvis Costello, there are some things you can’t cover up with lipstick and powder. So bet that Saturday’s grand opening of Make-Up will be anything but a drag. The latest monthly dance confection by promoters-DJs Joseph Brooks, Jason Lavitt and Pat Briggs, Make-Up--Hollywood’s newest glitter ‘n’ glam affair--even has its own house band (made up of members of Plexi, Star 69 and OtherStarPeople). See, rock ain’t dead, it’s just morphing. . . . She’s baaaaaack. That’s right, the one and only Dayle Gloria--a famous and infamous club promoter from the decade of decadence (no silly, not the ‘70s, we’re talking the ‘80s, big-time fun).

Gloria, who is booking shows and special events at her old Scream haunt, L.A.’s Park Plaza Hotel, is hosting her first Scream Flashback Weekend, with live bands and music. Partners for the March 26-27 event include Scream’s former doorman, Bobby Carlton (a recent music biz casualty), and ex-employees such as Video Mike and Rat Sound.

The Plaza’s new owner, Chavi Hertz, is in the process of renovating the once-lavish old hotel, and nearly everything--except the terrace--will be finished by the March dates. . . . Spaghetti Western took a shot in the heart recently, when the country rock band was forced to change its name because another group held the trademark. Re-christened Pacific Coast Highway, the boys are scheduled to open for America at the Key Club in West Hollywood on Feb. 25.
