Three months after election day, the mayor and his chief rival in last November’s contest failed to meet a deadline this week to submit their final campaign finance reports.

By late Wednesday, Mayor Patrick Hunter and former Councilman Bernardo Perez had not turned in the statements. The deadline was Feb. 1.

City Clerk Debbie Traffenstedt said she had contacted Perez and Hunter and that both men pledged to turn in their statements this week.

In the previous filing period, which ended Oct. 17, Perez had spent $12,692 on his campaign and received $15,146. Hunter had spent $7,706 and raised $9,370.

The other candidates in the most recent council race turned in reports Monday or Tuesday that outlined their spending during all of 1998, Traffenstedt said.

Former Planning Commissioner Keith Millhouse spent the most of all the six candidates--$12,113. He raised $12,191, of which $9,000 was his own money. Millhouse came in fourth.

The two council election winners, John Wozniak and Clint Harper, spent $4,001 and $1,397, respectively. Wozniak raised $4,051 and Harper raised $1,922.

Roseann Mikos, who finished third in the council race, spent $1,434 and raised $2,218.

Former Councilwoman Eloise Brown, who finished fifth, spent $2,471 and raised $2,503. Ernesto Acosta, who finished last, had declared that he would not spend or raise more than $1,000 and did not have to submit a financial statement.

Council members Chris Evans and Debbie Teasley, who were not up for reelection, also submitted financial statements. Evans declared he had not raised or spent more than $1,000, and Teasley declared her campaign committee had $1,195 on hand.
