Man Gets 144-Year Sentence in Rape of Daughter

A 58-year-old former aerospace engineer who for years molested his daughter and prayed to an Afro-Caribbean god for her sexual favors was sentenced to 144 years to life in prison Friday.

It was the maximum punishment Don Parthemore faced under the law.

Parthemore, of Canoga Park, had been abusing his daughter since she was 8, Deputy Dist. Atty. Linda Loftfield said, but he could not be held accountable for all of his acts because they were too old to prosecute under the law.

He was convicted a month ago of 17 felony counts of rape, sexual assault and child molestation.

Throughout his trial, Parthemore claimed his daughter, now 19, made up the allegations because he was a drunk and a bad father. His two other children backed his story.

But letters he had written to a Santeria god, asking for his daughter to have sex with him “every way and every day” bolstered the victim’s story, Loftfield said.
