Olausson Makes Important Point

Share

Fredrik Olausson whistled a low shot from the top of the right faceoff circle that glanced off the stick of St. Louis defenseman Chris Pronger and into the net early in the third period Saturday.

It was a big goal in more ways than one. First, it was the tying goal for the Ducks. Second, and no less important, it was Olausson’s 500th NHL point.

The Ducks went on to win, 4-3, and Olausson couldn’t have been happier about the victory. But he seemed unfazed by becoming only the second European-born defenseman to reach 500 points, joining fellow Swede Borje Salming, who had 787 points while playing for Toronto and Detroit from 1973 to 1990.

“I don’t know if I’m thinking about it a whole lot right now,” said Olausson, who became the 37th defenseman of any nationality to reach the milestone. “In a couple of years, it’ll be a nice accomplishment. I’m more happy with the win we got tonight.”
