Without Bure, Panthers Tie, 3-3

Marek Malik and Ray Sheppard scored second-period goals as the Carolina Hurricanes rallied for a 3-3 tie against the Florida Panthers, who were playing without injured star Pavel Bure Saturday night at Greensboro, N.C.

Bure, who had eight goals in his first six games with Florida, did not dress after suffering a knee injury at Pittsburgh on Friday night. Coach Terry Murray said the star right wing could be out at least a week.

Toronto 3, New Jersey 2--Steve Sullivan scored twice, including the game-winner with 2:59 left in the third period, and Curtis Joseph made 39 saves as the Maple Leafs beat the Devils at East Rutherford, N.J.

Sergei Berezin also scored for Toronto.

Petr Sykora and Randy McKay scored for New Jersey, which had its three-game unbeaten streak stopped.

Phoenix 3, Chicago 0--Jyrki Lumme scored two goals in the second period, and Coyote goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin notched his fifth shutout.

Daniel Briere added an insurance goal at Phoenix as the Coyotes ran their unbeaten streak to five (3-0-2) and sent the Blackhawks to their fifth consecutive loss.

Phoenix played without top goal-scorer Keith Tkachuk, sidelined for a second consecutive game because of sprained ribs and back spasms.

Montreal 3, Buffalo 2--Mark Recchi scored his first goal in 10 games and Martin Rucinsky had his team-leading 13th as Canadiens scored three times in the first period at Montreal.

Michal Grosek and Mike Peca scored for Buffalo. Alexei Zhitnik added two assists.

Montreal goalie Jeff Hackett was forced to leave the game early in the second period after suffering a hip injury. He was replaced by Frederic Chabot.

Philadelphia 2, Boston 2--Eric Lindros scored the game-tying goal and Ron Hextall stopped 27 shots at Boston as the Flyers extended their unbeaten streak to eight games.

Lindros’ 29th goal of the year came 5:22 into the third period when he slipped a backhand past screened Boston goalie Robbie Tallas on a power play.

Ottawa 2, Calgary 1--Magnus Arvedson scored the winning goal for the Senators 4:45 into the third period at Calgary.

Sami Salo gave Ottawa a 1-0 lead midway through the second period. Calgary’s Valeri Bure tied the score, 1-1, in the final minute of the second period.

Ottawa is 13-2-4 in its last 19 games.
