City officials plan to resume discussions with Newport Coast residents on a plan that would enable the city to annex the unincorporated area between Newport Beach and Laguna Beach. The council decided at a recent goal-setting session to reappoint the annexation subcommittee, which dissolved last year after coast residents decided to pursue forming their own city. Residents say a study shows that cityhood is a feasible option, but no one else has seen the study.

Council members Tom Thomson, Tod W. Ridgeway and Janice A. Debay will begin meeting with key coast residents to discuss the annexation. If the committee is able to reach an agreement, an action could be recommended to the City Council.
