A Laguna Beach couple has pledged $1 million to UC Irvine’s School of Humanities--already the university’s top-ranked school--to establish a program that emphasizes the relevance of humanities by bringing in leading scholars over the next 10 years.

Dr. Albert and Tricia Nichols are longtime supporters of UC Irvine’s medicine and arts programs, as well as the humanities. Recently, they were selected to receive the UCI medal, the college’s highest honor.

U.S. News & World Report has ranked UCI’s English Department 16th in the nation and the creative writing program sixth.
