Civic Pride: For a long time I’ve been commuting between Seattle and L.A., and I find myself “sticking up” for the city of fallen angels. Describing weekends like this helps me to win my case.

Happiest Place on Earth: On Friday night, my husband (writer-director Cameron Crowe) and I shoot down to Anaheim for dinner and rides at Disneyland. The dinner at the cafe inside Pirates of the Caribbean is nothing to write the L.A. Times about, but in the last two or three hours before closing, the lines for the rides get shorter and shorter. Hello! My favorites are Indiana Jones, Space Mountain and Star Tours. I like to sit up front, and I’ll wait if I have to. And it wouldn’t be a trip to Disneyland without a churro for dessert.

Day at the Beach: Saturday is all about sleeping in, going through mail and getting some homework done--mainly writing and composing--then on to brunch and mountain biking at Venice Beach. People-watching is always good there. For dinner, there’s La Serenata de Garibaldi, a great gourmet Mexican restaurant in Santa Monica. Of course, a movie after dinner is always optimum. My favorites are romantic comedies, such as [Crowe’s] “Jerry Maguire.”

The Lizard Queen: On Sunday, after going through more mail and doing more homework, we like to go to a classic diner-style brunch at a place called Snug Harbor in Santa Monica. Then it’s off to a refreshing hike at Will Rogers park to smell the eucalyptus and count the lizards. Once we counted nearly 30!

She Cooks Too: I like to shop at Santa Monica Seafood--the closest thing to Seattle in L.A.--and the Co-op, and cook an early romantic dinner for two at home, usually featuring a gourmet French rustic menu.

Our Lips Are Sealed: At sunset, we sneak in a little illegal off-leash dog walking on the beach once the lifeguards close up shop. Just don’t tell anyone . . .
