Board Should Televise Meetings

Share

* Re “No Action by Board on Televised Meetings,” Feb. 3:

I resent the fact that Supervisor Jim Silva is using his experience with the televised meetings of the Huntington Beach City Council to justify his excuse for not wanting to televise meetings of the Orange County Board of Supervisors.

Since he served on our City Council, we have elected members who are willing to listen to us.

Silva thinks “we the people” “grandstand” too much. Well, maybe it’s our turn! Elected officials such as Silva should be willing and eager to hear and fairly consider our views before acting on matters that affect us.

Televised meetings are a way to encourage citizen participation in the political process. Both the Board of Supervisors and local cable outlets should be in favor of airing such meetings for the benefit of the communities they serve.
