UCLA’s Leazer Wins Early Career Award
Gregory Leazer, an assistant professor in the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies’ Department of Library and Information Science, has won a 1998 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. Leazer was one of 20 academic winners selected by the National Science Foundation from a pool of more than 1,122 candidates.
The NSF commended Leazer for his “original contributions to understanding human-centered methods for locating information in complex digital library systems.” The $500,000 award is the highest honor bestowed by the federal government on scientists and engineers who are in the early stages of establishing their independent research careers.
