A 23-year-old woman was killed Friday when her vehicle was struck by a police car chasing suspects in a home burglary, authorities said.

The accident occurred about 3:15 p.m. in the Mira Mesa area of San Diego, said Bill Robinson, a Police Department spokesman.

The unidentified woman was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where she died, said hospital spokeswoman Kristina Murden. A police officer involved in the crash was also taken to a hospital for treatment. No details on his condition were available.

The pursuit started after police responded to a home burglary call and saw two men leaving the house. The suspects sped off and several officers pursued them, officers said.

The suspects’ vehicle ran a red light and police followed. The lead police car hit the woman’s vehicle, said police spokesman Dave Cohen.

Both suspects were later arrested, Cohen said.

One of the suspects was treated for several police dog bites on his right arm, a hospital spokeswoman said.
