Trash Disposal Methods

Re “A Rational Choice or Huge Threat?” Valley Voices, Feb. 7.
George Wein is right to be concerned about the contamination at Van Norman Reservoir, from ground water and wind-borne particulates, especially with the wind gusting to 60 mph.
Wein and Patti Friedman are shortsighted. They have failed to look at the future of this dump. The expansion will take in more trash and result in increased pollution from diesel exhaust, which the EPA has shown increases heart and respiratory disease, especially in those already compromised--children and the elderly. Browning Ferris Industries admits it can do nothing to control the air pollution.
As a resident of Granada Hills, I do not want this dump in my back yard. This response is based entirely on knowledge, not from emotion. No one should have to struggle to breathe, and a human life should never be compromised for monetary assets.
We are approaching a new millennium. Why is our trash disposal stuck in the Middle Ages?
