* Michael J. Cassanego has been named senior vice president and general counsel of the 20th Century Insurance Co. and its insurance subsidiaries.

Cassanego will oversee the Woodland Hills-based company’s corporate legal responsibilities, including regulatory compliance and general corporate and legal affairs. He will also oversee the company’s staff counsel operation.

Before joining 20th Century, Cassanego was vice president and deputy general counsel of Fremont Compensation Insurance Group, following its acquisition of Industrial Indemnity Co.

At Industrial, Cassanego was senior vice president, secretary and general counsel.

* Trak Communications of Tampa announced the promotion of James Reeves to the position of general manager of its Tecom Industries subsidiary in Chatsworth.

Reeves, who also becomes a corporate vice president of Trak Communications, had been Tecom’s vice president of marketing and contracts. He holds an MBA from Loyola Marymount University in Westchester.

Tecom designs and produces antennas and systems for satellite communications.

* The Valley Industry and Commerce Assn. has named Scott Olin Schmidt its government liaison director. Previously, Schmidt was the project manager of the Greater San Fernando Chamber of Commerce. The 23-year-old Encino resident holds a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and a master’s from USC.

* The Los Angeles law firm of McClintock, Weston, Benshoof, Rochefort, Rubalcava & MacCuish LLP recently added a new partner, John C. “Chris” Funk of Tarzana.

Funk, previously with the Paul Hastings’ land-use practice, has represented developers, institutional lenders, corporations and public agencies in land-use and environmental matters for 27 years. He established the civil land use and environmental section during his tenure at the Los Angeles city attorney’s office in the early 1970s.

Funk is on the executive committees of the Urban Land Institute, Los Angeles District Council, and Central City Assn. of Los Angeles. He holds a bachelor’s degree from USC and a J. D. from Harvard Law School.
