Oxnard, Camarillo Hospitals Get Award

Share

St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard and St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo were among nine organizations to receive a 1998 California Governor’s Quality Award, which recognizes companies for achieving excellence in their particular industries.

The program is administered by the California Center of Quality, Education and Development, a nonprofit corporation established as a private-public sector partnership to foster productivity, competitiveness and high standards among California businesses.

In 1998, the program created two new award categories: the Achievement Award, which recognizes companies that are implementing plans and procedures to improve business operations and processes; and the Commitment Award, to highlight the commitment to high-quality standards for employees in the workplace.

Together the St. John’s hospitals, which are owned by Catholic Healthcare West in San Francisco, won one of four Achievement Awards.

The awards program was established in 1993 and is based on the Malcom Baldrige National Quality Award. Applicants undergo an assessment process by volunteer examiners with extensive private industry expertise.

Winners are then selected by an independent panel of judges.
