Rustlers Score 12 in 6th Inning

Golden West scored 12 runs in the sixth inning and went to defeat host Santa Monica, 18-10, in a nonconference softball game Monday.

Golden West led, 6-4, after five innings before breaking the game open.

Barbie Fischer hit a grand slam and had five runs batted in and Dani Garcia had three hits, including a home run, and four RBIs for Golden West (4-3-1), which had 16 hits. Santa Monica is 1-1.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s golf:

Riverside 371, Santa Ana 376, Cuyamaca 383--Medalist Dan Williams of Riverside shot par 72 on the Chino Creek course at El Prado. Mark Hewlett shot 73 for Santa Ana.

Saddleback 384, Irvine Valley 407, Golden West 417, Cypress 419--Medalist Scott Henderson of Saddleback shot three-over 74 and teammate Lonnie Charleson shot 75 at Oak Creek.

In a nonconference match:

Long Beach 369, Orange Coast 392--Medalist Billy Kim of Long Beach shot three-under 69 on the Los Lagos course at Costa Mesa. Jason Counsil shot 73 for OCC.

In nonconference men’s tennis:

Cypress 5, Long Beach 4--John Watson won at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 7-5, and teamed with Thien Khuu-Nguyen to win at No. 3 doubles, 8-2, for host Cypress (4-1). Khuu-Nguyen also won his No. 6 singles match, 6-4, 6-7, 7-6.
