The City Council has approved an increase of $12,000 to the 1998-99 budget to allow for the purchase of playground equipment made out of recycled tires for Plavan Park. The amendment accounts for an $11,521 grant the city received from the state’s Integrated Waste Management Board and the California Environmental Protection Agency in March 1998 to buy equipment made from recycled rubber.
The money will be used to replace the park’s existing equipment to comply with federal safety and disability guidelines. The recycled material is designed to accommodate children with disabilities, particularly special-education students at Plavan School.
