Mattel to Produce Ferrari Toys, Clothes

Mattel Inc., the world’s largest toy maker, said Wednesday that it acquired the exclusive worldwide rights to make toys and clothes with the Ferrari trademark, increasing the company’s global appeal. Details of the multiyear contract with Italian sports car maker Ferrari weren’t disclosed. Ferrari is 87% owned by Fiat. El Segundo-based Mattel, whose brands include Matchbox cars and Barbie dolls, said it will showcase its Ferrari products at the American International Toy Fair in February. “Ferrari is one of the world’s most prestigious and recognized brands,” Bruce Stein, president and chief operating officer of Mattel Worldwide, said in a statement. “Its heritage gives the brand enormous global appeal for people of all ages.” Mattel shares fell 19 cents to close at $23.13 on the New York Stock Exchange.
