Plan to Alter Transit Panel Endorsed

Share

Ventura County supervisors on Tuesday endorsed a plan to radically change the makeup of the county’s 10-year-old Transportation Commission.

In a 4-1 vote, supervisors decided to scrap the seven-member panel’s current configuration, which includes three city representatives, two supervisors and two citizens with voting power.

Under an expanded configuration, all five county supervisors as well as a council member from each of the county’s 10 cities would have a vote on the panel, which this year is overseeing the distribution of $55 million in federal and state transportation funds. The commission also sets priorities for countywide transportation projects.

Any changes to the panel, however, are subject to approval by the state Legislature. Supervisor Frank Schillo proposed the change so that all the county’s cities would get a fair share of available transportation money.

Chairwoman Susan Lacey voted against the new configuration, saying that she objected to removing the two citizen representatives from the panel.
