Tennessee Shocks Kentucky

Two three-point baskets by Brandon Wharton, the last with 1:08 to play, lifted Tennessee to a 47-46 victory over sixth-ranked Kentucky on Tuesday night at Lexington, Ky.--the Volunteers’ first win at Rupp Arena in 20 years.

As the horn sounded, with Kentucky’s Michael Bradley struggling to get a shot off from under the basket, Volunteer players rushed the floor, celebrating the end of the victory drought.

The Volunteers, 11-4 overall and 3-1 in the Southeastern Conference, held Kentucky (14-4, 3-1) to its lowest point total at home since 1987.

Stephanie White-McCarty scored 20 points as third-ranked Purdue (12-1, 4-0) matched a school record with its 10th consecutive victory, a 76-46 rout of Northwestern (7-7, 1-3) in a Big Ten game at West Lafayette, Ind. . . .
